First National Cares for Second Harvest

Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization. With its vision of No Waste, No Hunger, it works tirelessly to address food insecurity faced by an estimated 5.6 million Canadians coast to coast. For these very good reasons, Second Harvest is a deserving partner of First National Cares, our official community giving program.

In a demonstration of our commitment to this important cause, 191 members of the First National team recently pitched in to move over 19.49 tonnes of potatoes and cereal bound for food banks in the Greater Toronto Area. That’s enough to provide 151,515 meals for those in need. 

Second Harvest food sorts are a meaningful way for us to show what’s in our nature by rolling up our sleeves and acting together as volunteers to make a difference.

We thank our First National volunteers for rescuing a portion of the 11.2 million tonnes of edible food that goes to landfill every year. 

We will continue to stand proudly behind Second Harvest at future food sorts in communities across the country.
